Goethe Institut Kamerun (Yaoundé, Cameroon)

This stamp has been taken out of a book about Cameroon from the Colonial period, which is stored at the library of the Goethe Institut, Yaoundé, Cameroon. The institute has first of all the mission to support intercultural work, to represent a picture of the modern Germany and to offer German language courses. The library, as a part of this mission, contains foremost books for learning German as well modern German literature.

The rectangular stamp has been used several decades ago and contains the postal address and the telephone number. The stamp must have been added later than during the colonial times, as the Goethe Institut was founded only in 1951.

In the right upper corner, older stamps can be seen - both from Leipzig, one from the Geographic Seminar of the University Leipzig and the other from the University library. Furthermore, there are three different bibliographic systematics. Interestingly, two have been added by hand, whereas the third one is a stamp.

This stamp - Prasenzbibliothek - means that the book can only be read at the library. Normally, the word is written with an umlaut on the "a", but apparently, they are gone.
